Medicinal maggots are used to treat and manage wounds in a procedure known as "maggot therapy." Medical Maggots™, are Monarch's proprietary brand of medicinal maggots.
Maggot therapy is easy to apply in a 3-step process: 1) place the Medical Maggots™ (5-8 maggots/cm2) in the wound and cover with our Le Flap du Jour cage dressing, 2) leave the active biological dressing on the patient for 1-2 days to clean the wound, 3) remove the dressing and maggots and dispose as with other medical waste.
In the United States, Medical Maggots™ are regulated by the Food and Drug Administration as a prescription only medical device for debriding ("cleaning") chronic wounds such as pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers, neuropathic foot ulcers and non-healing traumatic or post surgical wounds..
