Reimbursement |
|
|
Most private (insurance) and public (Medicare/Medicaid, DVA, etc) health benefit payors will reimburse the costs of maggot therapy and the maggots themselves.
However, at this time, there is no national Medicare/Medicaid policy nor code, so each state (subcontractor) must make its own determination about the level of reimbursement.
Monarch Labs is still working on this page, and still working on optimizing reimbursement. More information will soon follow.
For the time being, you can read all about the best CPT, HCPCS, and ABC codes to use by viewing the recent
BTER Foundation press release,
or by contacting the
BTER Foundation.
For those patients who do not have medical insurance coverage, or whose covereage refuses to pay for the maggots,
Monarch Labs has agreed to accept
BTER Foundation Patient Assistance Grants
in lieu of payment.
Information and applications for BTER Foundation Patient Assistance Grants can be found at:
www.BTERFoundation.orb/indexfiles/pt_assist.htm
There is page is still under construction.
Medical Maggots™ are indicated for use in the care and treatment of chronic wounds ("wound care") of humans or other animals
for the following indications: For debriding non-healing necrotic
skin and soft tissue wounds, including pressure ulcers, venous stasis ulcers,
neuropathic foot ulcers and non-healing traumatic or post surgical wounds.
Medical Maggots™ are used to clean ("debride") and manage wounds in a procedure known as "maggot therapy."
Sometimes wound debridement using maggots is also called "maggot debridement therapy," "MDT," "larva therapy," "larval therapy,"
"larva debridement therapy," or "biodebridement."
In the United States, Medical Maggots™ are regulated by the Food and
Drug Administration as a prescription only medical device used in the care and treatment of wounds. Read all packaging information carefully.
